SUGGESTIONS FOR GOOD READING

1. As quickly and as much as possible, eyes should be off the keys and focusing on the notes.

2. Sit at the center of the keyboard and maintain this position no matter how low or high the music goes. This way, you will gain a physical memory for key location without looking too much at the keys.

3. Scan all music for fingering range, position changes, intervals, sharps, and/or flats.

4. Train yourself to see groups of notes rather than just one note at a time. The circles in the following indicate some natural groupings. What makes each one "natural?" (Sometimes a parallel or related feature between patterns makes a kind of "natural" reading symmetry.)
