1. Because sharps and flats most often use black keys, a different keyboard "feel" results. The hand adjusts on the keyboard, forming a natural shape to accommodate the black key or keys.
On the keyboard, a sharp indicates a move to the very next key upward, black or white; a flat indicates a move to the very next key downward, back or white. Therefore:
C#/Db D#/Eb F#/Gb etc.
E/Fb F/E# etc.
