5. Return to the notes in item 3 - play each note, four beats to a whole note. This time think bass clef. If you would like to "hear" the correct notes played, activate the "item 5" mp3 file found at the bottom of the page. Play along for a quick self-assessment. Place a mark by the notes on which you hesitate. Practice the ones you marked. You may also choose to go to the download mp3 files at the end of the chapter drop-down menu to copy several groups of mp3 files at one time to either your computer or iPod.

If you have no trouble with four beats to a note, repeat the exercise using two beats for each note. Listen to the "item 5 in 2" mp3 file as you play.
6. The end goal for item 3 on page vi will be to play through twice, one beat to a note, treble clef first time and bass clef on the repeat. Tempo should be approximately one beat = 60. Return to the notes in item 3 one or time and use the mp3 file (p.vii, item 6) for a quick self-assessment.
7. If things have gone well and you want to have a little challenge in reading random whole notes at a set tempo, go to the tutorial for just such an exercise. You may link through this page or at any time from the Preliminary Chapter Drop-Down Menu.
